About Sacramento String Academy

Sacramento String Academy is an educational program of the American Foundation for Music dedicated to providing young musicians with intensive string instruction, ensemble training, masterclasses, and meaningful performance opportunities.
Following its 2026 program, the Academy will return to Sacramento from July 19 through August 2, 2027, with an expanded program designed to serve approximately 95 young musicians with a faculty of approximately 22 professional teachers, conductors, and music educators.
The Academy brings students and experienced musicians together in a focused and inspiring environment designed to strengthen technical skills, musicianship, ensemble experience, artistic confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Individual Instruction
Focused instruction with experienced string faculty.
Technique & Musicianship
Scales, arpeggios, études, intonation, tone production, and technical development.
Ensemble Training
Students develop listening, collaboration, rhythm, and ensemble performance skills.
Orchestra & Chamber Music
Rehearsal and performance experience in collaborative settings.
Masterclasses
Educational sessions led by faculty and guest artists.
Performance & Evaluation
Opportunities for students to demonstrate their musical growth and accomplishments.
