About the American Youth String Orchestra
The American Youth String Orchestra is an educational and performance program of the American Foundation for Music dedicated to developing young string musicians through ensemble training, artistic mentorship, and public performance.
Young musicians rehearse and perform classical repertoire while developing ensemble skills, musical expression, discipline, confidence, leadership, and professional performance experience.
The orchestra brings together aspiring violinists, violists, cellists, and double bass players in a supportive environment where students can grow artistically while performing alongside other dedicated young musicians.

Why Join the American Youth String Orchestra?
Participation in a youth orchestra gives developing musicians the opportunity to experience music beyond individual lessons. Students learn to listen, collaborate, lead, follow a conductor, understand orchestral repertoire, prepare for performances, and become part of a musical community.
The goal of the American Youth String Orchestra is not only to develop stronger musicians, but also confident, disciplined, creative, collaborative young people and to give them opportunities to play solo pieces with the orchestra.
